Mercury Musical Developments (MMD)
MMD is a writer support organisation dedicated to the support of writers of musical theatre at all stages of their careers. They provide forums for conversation, events, songwriting competitions and awards as well as advice and a community of support. They are also a constant source for advocacy in musical theatre. An extraordinary bunch of people. They also provide training in an invite only Advanced Writers Lab.
Writers Guild of Great Britain
The Writers Guild of Great Britain (WGGB) provides comprehensive resources and advice on information relating to the business of being a composer and lyricist for musical theatre in the UK.
Musicians Union
The Musicians Union also provides information relating to rates, fees and contracts . They are also able to provide legal support if you are a member.
Book, Music & Lyrics (BML)
BML is one of the only organisations dedicated to the training of the craft of Musical Theatre writing. Subsidised practical classes run weekly where industry professionals and peers feedback and constructively critique your work as a composer, lyricist or bookwriter. Also a great bunch of people to go the pub and geek out over musical theatre with. Though only new, they ahve an incredibly strong track record of producing quality award winnning songwriting. Members of the programme have had their work seen Off-Broadway, in the West End and in national and International tours.
Dischord
Dischord is a podcast by a director fellow called Adam Lenson. Adam is a young director intensely passionate about musical theatre and his podcasts include interviews with composers, lyricists, bookwriters, venues and producers, talking about all aspects of musical theatre, from business and money through to the craft of making a piece. Check it out.
